The Role of the School Council
In alignment with the ESF vision to help every student be the best they can be, the School Council plays a central role in our governance, dedicated to ensuring our school provides a world-class education that inspires every learner. This vital body is composed of a diverse group of stakeholders, including a Board-appointed Chair, community representatives and elected members representing parents, teachers and support staff. Together with the Principal and the ESF Chief Executive Officer, this collaborative group ensures that the voices of our entire school community are represented in high-level decision-making and oversight.
The Council’s primary mandate is to define the school’s strategic direction in conjunction with the Principal and within the framework set by the Board. Operating as a "critical friend," the Council supports school leadership while providing the necessary challenge to monitor and evaluate overall effectiveness. The School Council also provides a strategic overview to ensure the school is managed with integrity and exercises financial stewardship through the approval and monitoring of the annual budget.
To ensure the school runs smoothly, a clear distinction is maintained between high-level governance and daily management. While the Council remains focused on accountability to the Board and our community, it entrusts the day-to-day operations—such as specific teaching methods, policy implementation, and staff leadership—to the expertise of the Principal and the professional teaching team. This partnership allows the Council to remain a dedicated advocate for the school’s future while the staff focuses on the immediate needs of our students.
