Our Houses

The House System here at South Island School is a way of creating a family spirit amongst our students - but also fostering cooperation and, yes, competition.

At the point in which a student joins us, they are allocated to a House - and they stay in that House throughout their entire time with us. At South Island School, our Houses are Namas, Casa, Shtepi, Maison, Bahay, and Kuca.

Every day there are a multitude of clubs, societies and teams in operation - all of which are designed to allow the students to find their own passion, but also to develop skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.

Experiential Learning

At South Island School, we emphasise experiential learning as a key element of our educational approach. This method encourages students to engage directly with their environment, enhancing understanding through hands-on experiences. Our supportive framework fosters strong relationships and a sense of belonging, which are essential for personal and academic growth.

Student Leadership

While not every one of our students will want to be a leader - either in school or later in life, we recognise that leadership skills are important to all of us as we lead our lives. There are a variety of ways in which our young people can get involved, manage and lead either in the school or in the community.

Community Service

Every single one of our students is expected to take part in what we call our CAS programme. CAS stands for Creativity, Activity and Service - and it will see our young people looking for ways in which they can positively impact their fellow students, the school or local community or indeed their world.

CAS is integral to who we are and it is integrated into the working of the school. We help our students become responsible, caring citizens in everything that we do.
