1977

SIS opens as an annex of Island School

SIS opened as an annex of Island School on the top floor with 165 students and 6 teachers. The original Houses were Hillary, Jefferson and Schweitzer, with three classes in F1, and one class in F2 and F3, respectively. SIS students were made fun of by Island School students because of their green uniforms! Mike Taylor was the first Principal.

1978

SIS moves to Causeway Bay

SIS moved to 5 Eastern Hospital Road, So Kun Po near Causeway Bay opposite the British Army sports ground. The buildings had been used as another school before SIS moved in and were loaned to the ESF.

1983

SIS moves to Nam Fung Road

With 800 students and 52 teachers, the school moved to Nam Fung Road, our present site. Principal Mike Taylor wrote, “At Nam Fung Road we shall be, initially at least, about half a mile from any other buildings, surrounded by an expanse of green hillside”.

1984

Roger Brookin takes over as the new Principal

A year after moving to our permanent home, Roger Brookin took over as the new Principal. Roger was a classical scholar. Fun fact, Roger was able to speak Mandarin, which was unusual at the time.

1989

The stairway from school down to Glendale was built and in 1990 the access road to Deep Water Bay Road was constructed.
