1994

Chris Evans becomes the third Principal of SIS

After 10 years, Roger Brookin retired and returned to England. Chris Evans was appointed as Principal. There was a change in the school uniform. Annexes were created on the 5th floor with new sitting out areas.

1996

Opening of the Sports Hall and the Senior Common Room & Career Centre

The construction of the new Sports Block was complete. Built on top of the former open air swimming pool, the new indoor sports hall gave SIS “some of the best recreational and sports facilities in ESF.” The new sports hall also transforms the outdoor swimming pool into an indoor heated swimming pool, allowing for year round swimming activities. Additionally, the 6/F was repurposed as the Senior Common Room & Career Centre, giving our Senior students a dedicated space.

1997

New School Logo

As the city returned to Chinese rule and the Hong Kong SAR was established in the summer of ‘97, South Island School, along with ESF saw this time as a new era. With the beginning of a new season and a recognition that the school is much more international than the original Western/British student body, it was time to rethink the school’s identity to better reflect our school’s community makeup and distinctives. The new school logo replaces the original Norman Shield design with a clean and contemporary look, as we look forward to the future.
